Lyrics
MUM - R.I.P.
Alan A McIlrick

This is a Very Special Dedication,
of
Love, Thanks, and Gratitude
To/For;

A Very Special Person;
who I was blessed to have had
as a very large part of my life;

My Mum!

*Especially to MUM with Love!

For

'Thanksgiving Day'

25th November 2004

"YOU TAUGHT ME HOW TO LOVE YOU"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You taught me how to love you
by the way that you loved me;
And by your unseen sustenance,
to see what you could see.
You gave to me through who you were,
the gift of what I am.
Your pride in me, is now my pride;
Your faith, my caravan.
Your life does not conclude with death
Nor will it end with mine
For all the lives I touch, you touch
And so on through all time."
"YOU WERE MY MOTHER
AND MY FRIEND"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"You were my mother and my friend,

which was unusual.

Somehow our characters still blend:

Your wisdom and my will.

I turned, and you were there for me;

I spoke, you understood.

I felt cared for, but also free;

You loved,

and it was good.

I'm fortunate that I was born,

as the result, of someone as *SPECIAL*

as You;

I Love you still

Though you are gone,

You live in what I do!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Thank You for loving me

Having me in.

All you have given

Now I hold within

Kid in a vacuum, you made your own

Or else I could have been

Unloved and Alone."

"I THOUGHT I KNEW A THING OR TWO OF BEAUTY"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I thought I knew a thing or two of beauty:
I've known your love since I was hours old.
But now I bear myself the awesome duty
that love turns into joy
and joy to gold.
How precious to experience
your pleasure!
To be on both sides of the deep-felt glance;
To know so well the moment's gift
full measure;
To be both lead and partner in that dance.
No child can be but grateful
For her children, when loved so well
as to know well, to love.
No mother can but hope
her prudent passion
will move a heart
to move as her heart moved.
The love you felt for me
I now can feel
Which makes it not more lovely
but more real."
"I NEVER HAD A REAL MUM"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I never had a real mom,

but

I've had a mom that's real

In all the things that moms should do and all the things moms feel.

I never had a mother

but

I've had a mother's love.

I've had the kisses and the hugs

that therapists speak of.

I guess I should be crazy

with the things that I've been through

But I've had all a kid could need

Because

I have had You!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I CALL YOU "Ma,"
THOUGH YOU ARE NOT MY MOTHER"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I call you "Ma,"

though you are not my mother

But more a ma than any ma could be!

I've come to love you more than any other;

You took me in your charge

and set me free.

You let me run

and kissed me when I fell;

You kept your eyes on me

and let me stray.

I learned things hard,

which means I learned them well

And got to know myself along the way.

My hope and faith and pride are

all from You.

My roots are in your heart;

You are my home!

You will be part of everything I do

In all my thoughts

a wise and lovely poem

For all our lives

we'll have this common ground:

You were my rock

when else I would have drowned."

*****************************

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU I CAN'T SAY"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"How much I love you I can't say:

It's more than words can hold.

You're all at once my rich, red clay,

my potter and my mold.

Yours the words that shaped my voice, the spirit within mine.

Yours the will that shaped my choice, my fortune, and my sign.

How lucky I was to have had

you at the core of me!

Wise and good, you always knew,

just what I could be.

And so I came to be someone

whom I could be proud of

For this I give my swollen sum

of

Gratitude and Love."

************************

I LOVE YOU

MUM

ALWAYS!!!
